Getting craftier every minute

Excerpt from an e-mail I received today:

"We are contacting you in regards to an unusual activity that was identified in your mailbox. As a result, your mailbox has been deactivated. To restore your mailbox, you are required to extract and run the attached mailbox utility.

Best regards, speckdrumm.org technical support."

Enclosed in the zip archive was an executable best not executed :)

Protests reinvented

Haaaahn

That's not only James T. Kirk's very private view on the situation in Austria's universities, it's also the view of thousands of student occupiers protesting for a dramatic improvement of conditions since last Thursday. Hahn of course being the minister of science currently responsible for the situation.

What's really interesting is how the protests are organized. One article discussing this is the post over at the clever sheep which covers the essentials rather well.

Wanna get a German live overview of the situation? Check out live streams from the universitiy of technology Vienna, twitter (other tag include #unsereuni #tubrennt) or the occupier's wiki at the TU at http://tu-brennt.fsinf.at/.

Summer, Sun, Chiptunes!

I just got word that the cool guys over at dot matrix managed to get acclaimed 8bit artist nullsleep to perform August 2nd over at the Florido beach in Vienna!

Joining in with the fun will be Dot Matrix themselves as our very own gameboy music club as several top notch DJs. This is a fantastic lineup you don't wanna miss so just head over to the Florido independent beach Bar (supposedly somewhere around here) and get all blocky inside for 8 Bit Beach Vienna!

Another fantastic chiptune gig is just about to happen!

Update:
Nullsleep is now linking to an actually useful map of the event's whereabouts.

Missing View Code/View Designer context menus on your WF4 XAML file?

I just kept wondering why some of my project's XAML workflows were having view code/view designer context menus in solution explorer while others didn't.

After some investigation it turned out that this information was (at least for Visual Studio 2010 beta 1) encoded in the project file itself!

An entry for a xaml file would look like this in the .csproj file:

<ItemGroup>
<XamlAppDef Include="service.xaml">
<Generator>MSBuild:Compile</Generator>
</XamlAppDef>
</ItemGroup>

After adding a subtype element as included for other xaml files in the project, the context entries finally showed up!

<ItemGroup>
<XamlAppDef Include="service.xaml">
<Generator>MSBuild:Compile</Generator>
<SubType>Designer</SubType>
</XamlAppDef>
</ItemGroup>

Nomination, schmomination...

One of the tools I never wanted to miss after having started using it is the brilliant tortoise-svn tool for source-code and general file respositories. They are currently aiming to win the awards over at sourceforge.net for "Best Project" and "Best Tool or Utility for Developers". So if you're feeling grateful for this tool as I do, show them your support by voting!
